Selective capitalism is un-American.
The capitalist ruling class dominate and exploit the working class for the surplus value of their labor. When the fruits of this process are used to accumulate even more power for the ruling class - as has historically been the case - the working class becomes weaker as a group and individually find improving their lives to be more difficult.
Labor unions were once believed to be the answer to this imbalance of power in the economy, but through the reduction of citizen representation and purchased influence in Washington, the capitalist ruling class have all but destroyed the labor unions in this country. They should be restored. Still, the ultimate arbiters for citizens in the United States of America are the Constitution and the government. Our government exists to serve the citizenry at large. It is only through government that citizens may enact laws and regulation policies that protect them from the economic power of the capitalist ruling class.
It is improper for the government to prop up the failing ventures of the capitalist ruling class as though they are required middle managers. They are not. Contrary to the ideas of some, the government does not require a subcontractor to perform its every function; it can work directly with its citizens.
Capitalist ventures that do not succeed should fail. This process of attrition is natural and health and clears the way for new growth. Any organization determined to be “too big to fail” should immediately be nationalized. It is abundantly clear by now that such organizations represent a national security issue. And unless the underlying business can be broken into smaller pieces and reintroduced into the private sector, it should remain a government operation.
Since most Americans are in the working class, they do not want their government acting in ways that strengthen mega corporations or the capitalist ruling class grip on their lives. Americans want their government to minimize corporate power. They want to pursue happiness and escape exploitation; they want a valid opportunity to discover new levels of success in capitalism.
